In the frame of festivity for the 20th anniversary of the Cultural Routes programme a meeting of the national ambassadors in the Council of Europe took place in the Centre for Culture "Abbaye Neumünster" in Luxembourg. During this event the projects VIA REGIA and "Transromanica" received the certificate as "Major Cultural Route of the Council of Europe" from the Director General for Culture, Cultural and Natural Heritage, Robert Palmer.
Next to this ceremonial presentation the event in Luxembourg first of all has been a platform for Cultural Routes projects to introduce themselfes to the permanent members of the Council of Europe. Especially the meaning of those Cultural Routes has been highlighted that work in the mediteranien area as well as those that speak for the dialogue between Eastern and Western Europe. Choosen representatives of those projects had the possibility to present their work in the podium in detail.
A third aim of the working days has been the linking of the Causcasian Republics to the Cultural Routes Programme of the Council of Europe. In a common workshop with the two project suggestions "Alexandre Dumas" and the "Route of Books" that are developed at present interesting connections between the medieval traffic lines in Azerbaijan, Georgie and Armenia (tied to the Silk Route to Asia) and the VIA REGIA came out.
In frame of this meeting we had the possibility to present the European VIA REGIA - geographical information system to the Head of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Cultural Routes in the Council of Europe, Mrs. Alberotanza at full length. The aims of the VIA REGIA-GIS meet the visions of the Council of Europe to present Europe in its histocical and present dimension as net of all Cultural Routes in one map-based system the future question arises how and if other Cultural Routes can be included into the GIS of the European Centre for Culture and Information in Thuringia.
