Since several years the European Centre for Culture and Information in Thuringia (ECT) deals with research and publication of the longest and oldest road link between Eastern and Western Europe and began, based on these experiences, to develop an international network in order to suggest the Council of Europe to acknowledge the route VIA REGIA as "Cultural Route of the Council of Europe" and in a further step to strive for an acknowledgement as UNESCO- World Heritage. Both raised the interest of the appropriate institutions, in 2007 the VIA REGIA has been acknowledged as Major Cultural Route of the Council of Europe.
On this way the EKT arranged from 2nd till 4th of July in 2004 an international symposium:
"From Galicia to Galicia - VIA REGIA - King's road of Europe'"
in cooperation with the European Center for Information in the Thuringian State Chancellery.
